decisions were made.

New York State’s 2025 budget
means for Long Island

Keynote Speakers

Dean Murray
New York State Senator
(R, C) 3rd Senate District

In 1985, Dean Murray graduated, with honors, from the Broadcast Institute of Maryland and for the next ten years, he was involved in all aspects of radio and television news throughout Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. During that period, Mr. Murray covered the Pennsylvania State Capital for over 100 radio stations and served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Associated Press. While living in Pennsylvania, he played five seasons of semi-pro football with the Chambersburg Cardinals and York Lions.

In 1994, Mr. Murray came to Long Island as an advertising sales representative for TCI Cable and was promoted to regional sales manager serving the Tri-State area. Not being able to completely let go of his love for broadcasting, he periodically filled in doing morning news at WBLI Radio and also did the play-by-play radio broadcasts of local high school football games on WALK-AM.

In 1997, Mr. Murray established his own advertising agency – D & S Advertising, Inc., and for nearly 25 years published several specialty, free-publications, including Long Island Job Finder and Long Island Fugitive Finder whose websites are still active and extremely popular.

Mr. Murray was first elected to serve in the New York State Assembly in a special election in February 2010 and was re-elected by a comfortable margin in November of 2010. Following a brief two-year break, voters returned him to the Assembly in 2015, where he served for another four years. While in the Assembly, Mr. Murray led the fight to repeal the MTA payroll tax, eliminate the salt-water fishing license fee, pass the largest middle class tax cut in decades and adopt the I-STOP program to help fight the serious problem of prescription drug abuse.

Mr. Murray has been an active member of several Chamber of Commerce chapters throughout Suffolk County, served as a board member with the Patchogue-Medford Youth & Community Services, the Focus East Patchogue Civic Organization, was a member of the Suffolk County Police Reserves and also served on the Suffolk County Workforce Investment Board.

He is extremely proud of his son, Anthony Dean Murray, who served six years in the Maryland Air National Guard, completing tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Murray was elected to represent Senate District 03 in 2022. He serves as a ranking member of the Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business Committee, Libraries Committee, and Social Services Committee; and is a member of the Budget and Revenue, Codes and Higher Education Committees.

He currently lives in East Patchogue with his two dogs, Pete and Lola.

~~~~~~~ AND ~~~~~~~
Robert Calarco
Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Relations – Long Island
Office of Governor Kathy Hochul
New York State
Robert Calarco serves as the assistant secretary for Intergovernmental Relations – Long Island for Governor Kathy Hochul. In this role, Mr. Calarco and his team are the conduit through which the Governor’s office interacts with local partners including municipalities, not for profit entities, labor organizations, businesses and more. His team helps to coordinate various state agencies to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient state government in the region. In addition, Mr. Calarco helps inform policy decisions by providing the Long Island region’s perspective and priorities within New York State’s Chamber.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Calarco served as assistant regional director for Region 1 of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, consisting of Nassau and Suffolk counties. As assistant regional director, he assisted in running day-to-day operations, ensured regional staff executed the agency’s priorities and directives and communicated to executive staff the challenges and issues affecting the region. In addition, he served as the main point of contact between the DEC and various state, county and local elected officials, as well as the many advocacy organizations within Region 1.
Prior to joining the DEC, Mr. Calarco spent 20 years working in Suffolk County government, primarily in the Suffolk Legislature. He served ten years as a legislator for the 7th Legislative District, during which he was elected by his peers to serve as Majority Leader, Deputy Presiding Officer and Presiding Officer. To achieve leadership positions in a legislative body, he built coalitions and brokered compromises among people with very different ideologies. He also helped steer the County’s annual $3.9 billion operating budget and $350 million three-year capital plan.
Mr. Calarco earned a B.A. in Political Science from Dowling College and a M.A. in Public Administration and Public Policy from SUNY Stony Brook.  He currently lives in Patchogue with his wife and three children.
