decisions were made.

Join us for a bi-partisan presentation on what
New York State’s 2025 budget
means for Long Island

Keynote Speakers

Dean Murray
New York State Senator
(R, C) 3rd Senate District

In 1985, Dean Murray graduated, with honors, from the Broadcast Institute of Maryland and for the next ten years, he was involved in all aspects of radio and television news throughout Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. During that period, Mr. Murray covered the Pennsylvania State Capital for over 100 radio stations and served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Associated Press. While living in Pennsylvania, he played five seasons of semi-pro football with the Chambersburg Cardinals and York Lions.

In 1994, Mr. Murray came to Long Island as an advertising sales representative for TCI Cable and was promoted to regional sales manager serving the Tri-State area. Not being able to completely let go of his love for broadcasting, he periodically filled in doing morning news at WBLI Radio and also did the play-by-play radio broadcasts of local high school football games on WALK-AM.

In 1997, Mr. Murray established his own advertising agency – D & S Advertising, Inc., and for nearly 25 years published several specialty, free-publications, including Long Island Job Finder and Long Island Fugitive Finder whose websites are still active and extremely popular.

Mr. Murray was first elected to serve in the New York State Assembly in a special election in February 2010 and was re-elected by a comfortable margin in November of 2010. Following a brief two-year break, voters returned him to the Assembly in 2015, where he served for another four years. While in the Assembly, Mr. Murray led the fight to repeal the MTA payroll tax, eliminate the salt-water fishing license fee, pass the largest middle class tax cut in decades and adopt the I-STOP program to help fight the serious problem of prescription drug abuse.

Mr. Murray has been an active member of several Chamber of Commerce chapters throughout Suffolk County, served as a board member with the Patchogue-Medford Youth & Community Services, the Focus East Patchogue Civic Organization, was a member of the Suffolk County Police Reserves and also served on the Suffolk County Workforce Investment Board.

He is extremely proud of his son, Anthony Dean Murray, who served six years in the Maryland Air National Guard, completing tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mr. Murray was elected to represent Senate District 03 in 2022. He serves as a ranking member of the Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business Committee, Libraries Committee, and Social Services Committee; and is a member of the Budget and Revenue, Codes and Higher Education Committees.

He currently lives in East Patchogue with his two dogs, Pete and Lola.

~~~~~~~ AND ~~~~~~~
Steve Stern
New York State Assemblyman
(D) 10th Assembly District
Steve Stern is proudly serving his fourth term as New York State Assemblyman representing the 10th Assembly District and has been named Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee of the New York State Assembly. He was elected to the Assembly in a special election in April 2018 and passed an impressive six bills in his first six weeks in office.
Assemblyman Stern previously served six terms as Suffolk County Legislator representing the 16th District. In addition to representing the community with distinction and a commitment to providing outstanding constituent services, he has also authored several legislative initiatives that have been the first in New York State as well as in the nation.
Mr. Stern has sponsored and passed legislation to improve access to critical veteran benefits, improve veterans’ employment opportunities, protect veteran homebuyers from fraud through loan counseling and assistance, and to expand opportunity for Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business Enterprises. He introduced and passed the “Housing Our Homeless Heroes Act”, an important legislative initiative to end veteran homelessness and authored the “Protect Our Fallen Heroes Act,” which protects military funerals from reprehensible and disrespectful protests.
He created New York State’s first Silver Alert system, which – like an Amber Alert – assists in the safe return of loved ones with Alzheimer’s Disease and other cognitive disorders. It has since been expanded by the Suffolk County Police Department to include those with special needs, such as autism, developmental disabilities and severe mental illness.
He has supported meaningful incentives for innovative housing options for senior citizens and young adults and secured a property tax rebate credit for STAR and Enhanced STAR programs. He is the proud co-sponsor of New York’s “Red Flag Law” which helps keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them and allows immediate intervention when individuals demonstrate dangerous or violent behavior that poses a risk to public safety.
Mr. Stern has co-sponsored and passed initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and incentivize renewable and sustainable energy; prohibit offshore drilling in Long Island coastal waters; ban products that contain the drinking water contaminant 1,4 dioxane; and prohibited the disposal of toxic spoils into New York’s Marine District. He has secured vital funding for clean water infrastructure as well as $22 million to complete Huntington Station’s sewer infrastructure to support downtown revitalization and protect its sole-source aquifer.
Assemblyman Stern graduated from Tulane University and received his law degree from Western Michigan University TMC Law School, graduating cum laude. He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney through the National Elder Law Foundation and is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida. He was elected a Fellow of The New York Bar Foundation and has served as an adjunct professor of law at Touro School of Law. He is a past trustee of the Long Island Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and a past vice president of the Suffolk Y JCC. He has been featured in Newsday, The New York Times and Long Island Business News and was chosen as Man of the Year in Government by the Times of Huntington.
